The Performance of West African Dwarf Weaner Bucks Fed Graded Levels of Groundnut Testa as Replacement for Full Fat Soybeans
Abstract
A total of nine (9) West African Dwarf weaner bucks were used to evaluate their performance when fed diets in which groundnut testa composite mill (GTCM) replaced soybean meal at graded levels. The experimental design was Completely Randomized Design and animals were grouped randomly into three treatments with three replicates, each animal served as a replicate. Three diets were formulated for the treatment groups and designated as T1 (control), T2 (50%) and T3 (100%). Results revealed no significant (P>0.05) difference in final mean weight. Significant (P<0.05) difference was observed in weight gain and feed intake as both increased with increasing groundnut composite levels in the diets. This was attributed to the diets’ acceptability and palatability. FCR was best in T1 but was not statistically different from T2 and T3. It can be concluded that groundnut testa can adequately replace soybean up to 100 % in the diet of goats for optimal productivity and profitability.
