Nutrients digestibility in Yankasa rams fed urea ensiled crushed corn cobs supplemented with concentrates
The study was conducted to determine the nutrients digestibility of Yankasa rams fed urea ensiled crushed corn cobs (UECCC) with supplementation. The treatments were T1 crushed corn cobs (CCC), T2 urea ensiled corn cobs for seven days (UECCC7), T3 urea ensiled corn cobs for fourteen days (UECCC14) and T4 urea ensiled corn cobs for twenty one days (UECCC21). Twenty (20) Yankasa rams were supplemented with 300g per head per day of maize bran mixed with cotton seed cake (1:1). The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design (CRD). Crude protein and acid detergent fibre digestibility increased with increasing days of ensilage from 47.72 to 68.67% and 38.29 to 66.67% respectively. It was concluded that corn cobs ensiled with urea at 7, 14 and 21 days and supplemented with 300g/day of maize bran and cotton seed cake (1:1) had no adverse effect on nutrients digestibility of growing Yankasa sheep. Therefore, corn cobs ensiled with urea at 21 days with supplementation is recommended.
