Effect of Replacing Maize with Solid Waste Products of Sugar Industry (Swapsi) on Reproductive and Egg Quality Traits of Noiler Chickens

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine effect of replacing maize with solid waste products of sugar industry (SWAPSI) on reproductive and egg quality traits of Noiler birds. A total of one hundred and fifty (150), day old Noiler chicks were purchased and used at the start of the experiment. At maturity (point of lay), sixty (60) Noiler birds were randomly selected and assigned into six dietary treatments of 10 birds each in a completely randomized designed. The birds were placed in labelled individual cages to assess egg production and quality traits. Data collected were analyzed using One Way ANOVA of the SPSS statistical software version 21. The results obtained indicated that SWAPSI had effect on most egg quality parameters except egg shape index and egg yolk colour which were not significant. The results also showed that SWAPSI had no significant (P>0.05) effect on reproductive traits. It can be concluded that SWAPSI positively influenced various egg quality parameters, enhancing aspects such as egg weight, shell thickness, and albumen quality. However, egg shape index and yolk color were not significantly affected by SWAPSI, suggesting that these specific traits may be influenced by other factors and no significant effects on reproductive traits indicates that while SWAPSI can enhance certain quality aspects of eggs, it does not appear to impact the reproductive performance of Noiler chickens.
